One Big Thing Will Still Be Closed When Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Reopens

There are a LOT of reopenings going on at Disney World lately and one that many Disney fans are looking forward to is the full reopening of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort!

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

The resort has been undergoing a HUGE renovation since September of last year that includes a new entrance area, monorail station, AND Moana-themed rooms. And, while we’re quickly approaching the hotel’s full reopening date, it’s important to keep in mind that construction isn’t set to fully wrap up by July 19th.

In Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort reopening announcement, they shared that the monorail station and the front entrance to the Great Ceremonial House will STILL be closed when guests are welcomed back.

We’ve been keeping track of the construction on the new monorail station and, though the structure is in place, you can still find a lot of construction skrim in the area. So, it looks like there is still quite a bit of work to be done.

But, that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to get to the Magic Kingdom when staying here!

The resort has been offering bus transportation to and from the park since it reopened its Disney Vacation Club Villas and that will continue until the monorail station is completed. Additionally, the resort is a short walk from the Transportation and Ticket Center, where you will be able to get on the monorail line.

There’s also a lot of work still going on in the front entrance area! Most recently, we noticed that the new roof had been installed, but construction crews and equipment are still putting the finishing touches on the area.

More progress being made!

Once completed, the front entrance will feature colorful details (some of which you can already spot), dramatic lighting, and a chandelier inspired by glass floats, fishing nets, and bamboo.

And, while construction continues on the entrance area when the resort reopens, guests staying at the hotel will be able to access the lobby through a side entrance instead. Just be sure to look for signage that will direct you to the right area when you arrive.

Though these two projects won’t be completed in time for the reopening, plenty of others will. On July 19th, the temporary front desk location over at Pago Pago will close and all front desk services and the concierge will move back into the Great Ceremonial House. Plus, valet and Disney’s Magical Express will open once again under the brand new port cochere.

Of course, there are plenty of other amenities to take advantage of that have recently reopened in the hotel as well including restaurants like ‘Ohana, Kona Cafe, Tambu Lounge, and Capt. Cook’s. However, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto still remains closed.

We’ll be bringing you along for a FULL look at the reopening of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and will continue to keep an eye out for updates on when the final construction will be completed. In the meantime, be sure to stay tuned for more Disney news and updates!

  1. I was there two weeks ago. You are practically trapped. No monorail. We started to walk to the Grand Floridian and the walkway was closed. The boats hardly running same with the bus. luckily a worker was driving around in a golf cart and drove the four of us to the Floridian. Very messy. Thank you
