Get ready to SCREAM… with excitement!

Earlier this summer at the D23 Ultimate Fan Event, Disney announced a ride that was decades in the making: The Monsters, Inc. door coaster! A ride of this kind had been rumored and speculated on for two decades, and now it’s coming to Hollywood Studios. At the time, there was heavy speculation — and consternation — from Disney fans about where the new coaster was going. Many feared it would replace the Muppets, while others wondered if it could be coming for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. In the end, though, NO one anticipated what Disney was going to announce!
In late November 2024, Disney confirmed that the new Monsters, Inc. land — complete with the door coaster, dining options, and more — WILL be replacing the Muppet Courtyard area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, ending the decades-long run of Muppet*Vision 3D. So, in other words, the Muppets are gone from Hollywood Studios forever, right?
WRONG.
In addition to the confirmation of the Monsters, Inc. location, Disney also confirmed that the Muppets are TAKING OVER THE ROCK ‘N’ ROLLER COASTER, replacing the Bad Boys of Boston themselves, Aerosmith.

According to Disney, “To make way for the monsters, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and more of their friends will be moving right along to Sunset Boulevard! But there’s more to the story: The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival!”

The company further elaborated, “We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster. Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!”

Disney BLEW us away with this announcement, and we’re still processing how much Hollywood Studios is about to change! One of the last early ’90s attractions in the park is being replaced by Monsters, Inc., but the Muppets will live on as the NEW stars of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Stay tuned to AllEars as more changes are confirmed!

I am a great big NO to this change. Who is going to get pumped up to ride on a thrill ride staring the Muppets??? To go see them in a show is one thing. I think Disney is making a giant mistake ruining one of their best rides.
I love the Muppets and hate to see the show permanently close. I do think a better story for Rock and Roller would be the Goofy Movie. Oh man would I love to see a ride based on Powerline!
Ugh. Count me NOT excited. I love Aerosmith music on that ride, and I just can’t see getting fired up on any Muppet music. BLECH.
