Character meet and greets are one of the most essential parts of the Disney experience.

However, making the most of them requires following some unspoken rules. Whether parents, youngsters, or Disney adults, everyone meeting characters at Walt Disney World should keep these guidelines in mind.
Don’t Force It
This one mainly goes out to parents. We absolutely understand that getting a photo of your little one with Mickey is an essential part of your dream Disney vacation. However, not every child responds well to the characters, and if you child is seeking and afraid, don’t force the experience. It doesn’t end well for anyone.

Listen to Cast Members
This one is pretty simple: If a Cast Member tells you to do something, do it. If they tell you to line up a certain way, line up. If they tell you that a character is going away for a moment, don’t try and force a photo.

Hotel Characters
This summer, Disney is introducing a character game changer to Walt Disney World when they announced that 4 hotels – – Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge – – would feature “character visits with set appearance times to help you plan your day and an expanded itinerary of things to do with your family throughout your stay at these four resorts. “

In what should seem like common sense but is important to note: If you want to meet characters at your hotel, make sure you’re booked in one of the four hotels that will feature meet & greets.
Consider Character Meals
Despite the expansion of characters to hotels and around the parks, it’s still worth considering a character meal. The benefits of a good meal and air-conditioning outside of the Florida summer heat can still outweigh any increased convenience, especially if the specific character you want to see is available during a specific meal at a park or hotel restaurant.

Stay in the Know
Occasionally, Disney will move character meet & greets unexpectedly. For example, in 2024, Chip ’n’ Dale moved from Tomorrowland to Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom. So, if there’s a specific character you’re looking for, they may not be where you saw them last time. Be sure to consult the My Disney Experience app, and if all else fails, ask a Cast Member!

Following these unspoken character rules will improve any interaction for yourself, your family, your fellow guests, and Disney Cast Members. Stay tuned to AllEars for more Disney tips!
