A NEW entertainment offering is coming to Disney World… and it’s going to have a major effect on the resort’s transportation.

Beginning on July 20th, the Magic Kingdom will welcome a brand new nighttime parade — Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away — to its attraction lineup. The parade, the first new Magic Kingdom nighttime parade in years, is going to change how the park operates at night, and how long it takes guests to get home.
Following in the iconic footsteps of the Main Street Electrical Parade and Spectromagic, Disney refers to Starlight as a “shimmering processional inspired by the classic Main Street Electrical Parade. It’s a star-kissed constellation of Disney dreams, brought to life by the magic of the Blue Fairy” where guests can see “enchanting moments unfold from favorite Disney and Pixar stories such as Moana, Peter Pan, Encanto, Frozen, Pinocchio and more.”

While we can’t wait for Starlight, there’s no doubt that it’s only going to add to the Magic Kingdom’s nighttime issues. Specifically, any guests who have ever left the park at night know that there is a mass exodus from the park following the evening fireworks speculator – currently Happily Ever After – which leads to long lines and mobbed crowds for the transportation options to leave the park, including Disney buses, the Monorail, and watercraft to the Transportation and Ticket Center.
The heavy crowds wanting to see the new parade – which runs down Main Street U.S.A. – and then funneling out of the park will only exacerbate the issue, especially if showtimes for both the fireworks and parade are as close together as previous nighttime spectaculars of their type have been.

How can one get around this? Well, if you don’t mind missing the nighttime shows, plan your Magic Kingdom day around leaving the park BEFORE the shows and their exit rush begins. However, if you – like millions of others – do want to catch the shows, you’ll likely be stuck in a crowd at some point. This can be mitigated by hanging around the park as long as possible (take in the kiss goodnight perhaps?) to try and let the crowds let out, but even then, crowding on transportation is somewhat unavoidable.

The Magic Kingdom’s new Starlight parade is going to transform the park’s nightly routine, including altering how transportation out of the park works. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on the new parade.
